It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you our latest creation, hot off the press.

The Songs - Their motivation & Lyrics

  • 1. Soul Stalker

Soul stalker is sort of rock-meets-pop-meets dubstep. Due to the fact that the classical component of our music is so prominent, we decided to give this one a bit more of a synth edge. You almost get an 80’s feel listening to it.

    The Lyrics

I cannot wait for you to see, I’ll find a way that you want me
I’m not the one that lives regret – I do not whisper, I scream instead

    CHORUS
(Soul stalker) I am the blazing fire, become the burning sand
(Soul stalker) I’m all that you desire, the flame that ties your hand
I follow my heart and it wants you, you haunt my nights, now I haunt you
You fill my days with blind obsession, consume my thoughts with indiscretion

    BRIDGE
I am here, I am waiting for you
    I want it all – your body and soul . . .

  • 2. Surrender

We always wanted to write a dance song because we both love dancing. The tango was a natural choice to communicate the passion and sensuality of the lyric, and the guitar work of Mauritz Lotz is masterful.

    The Lyrics

And if I touch you, will you lean to me?
And if I hold you, will you fold in me?
Can you feel this dance with me?
Will you follow where the rhythm leads?
Move your body around my beat
    Come, come dance with me

    CHORUS
Feel my rising hunger, burn the night with me
    surrender into me . . .
Let my fire fill you, ignite the spark in me
Surrender. . .and dance with me
Will you touch me, set my soul alight?
Will you hold me, love then I just might concede
And let you dance with me
I will follow if you take the lead
Take my body, consume my heat
Complete when you dance with me

  • 3. Elegy (with Andrea Casanova)

Elegy is a duet with Spanish vocalist Andrea Casanova of Spanish gothic metal band, Rainover. Elegy is a ballad about the sadness and insanity of humans’ insistent commitment to destruction when faced with our differences.
”I specifically wanted the sadness reflected through the strings in the verses, and feel the insanity in the instrumental. The level of skill displayed in the instrumental is exactly that – insane!” (René). The call-and-answer duel of Susan Mouton on cello and Mauritz Lotz on electric guitar serves as testimony to the high level of skill South African musicians possess.
“Due to the fact that Andrea’s mother tongue is Spanish, I decided to write the lyric of Elegy in both English and Spanish, to complement both vocalists. Andrea’s voice is perfect for the song and the two voices and languages are a perfect match to carry the message across” (Esther).

[Elegy - pronounced "el-e-je" - a poem of serious reflection, typically a lament for the dead. A poem or song composed especially as a lament for a deceased person]

    The Lyrics

In war and pain we’re blind, insane. . .
Driven by fear, by loss and shame
Till hope is gone – nothing remains . . .

    CHORUS
Divine the justice, the light that saves
    Divine the hope tomorrow craves
Divine the hope that feeds all man
Divine is grace that heals this land

Los amore que se perdieron (lonely lovers lost)
Los niños con frio y miedo (children cold and afraid)
    Vidas destrozadas (shattered lives)
Todos los sueños rotos (all the broken dreams)
Our hope is gone – nothing remains . . .

CHORUS: Divina la justicia, la luz que salvará
Divina la esperanza que mañana traerá
Divina la mano que alimenta a todos los hombres
Divina la gracia que cura la tierra

  • 4. Sacred Vow

Sacred vow is about losing someone and the sadness of saying goodbye. The hauntingly beautiful string arrangement, together with the power of the song, leaves you strangely uplifted and sad all at once. “I loved composing music for the song because the lyric is so honest and beautiful” (René).

    The Lyrics

I reach for you in failing light,
hide my tears from dimming sight
    I kiss your pledge in angel breath;
your soul takes flight in evening’s death

    CHORUS
Break free my love, don’t wait for me
Curse these arms that cannot set you free
Find peace and light – this truth you’ll see
I walk the grace you left in me
I wish that I could cure this tide,
that slowly stole you from my side
That I could follow through the cold,
as life with you slipped past my hold.
I hope you know you leave behind
the tilt of joy within my mind
The touch of love beyond your face –
    Borders broke my fear’s embrace.

    BRIDGE
Soar my angel, defeat the night
Spread your wings to Holy light
My prayer, my pledge, my sacred vow
Will guide you there and show you how . . .
My prayer, my pledge, my sacred vow . . .

  • 5. Infinity

“Infinity is a song about the ancient struggle of humans to be human. . . Despite all our high ideals, and superficial fixes, century after century we end up in the same place” (Esther).
“Due to the unique musical construction of the song we felt it needed a surprise element somewhere. This led to the rhythmic string section with choral vocals” (René).
“The Latin chant represents the main elements of creation as seen by all religions on earth” (Esther).

    The Lyrics

As time exploded the endless night and memories of life turned light
A spark created world and man, and breath became the words he sang
Of angel choirs bent in prayer, of doom, of sin, of earth’s despair
And as the hourglass unwind the journey chimes through running minds.
Dawn of man became a wreath that twined like flowers into death
The life of all now doomed to fall, the ancient masters conquered all
No lessons learned, just trophies gained, in great pursuit of human stains
And glass lies shattered on the sand – the broken dreams of blood-soaked hands . . .
Can we hear and heed the call of earth and heartbeats’ rise and fall?
Of wonders small when seeds reach high – the Holy gifts of first drawn cries
Can children learn to honour peace, custodians of all that breathes?
The water, fire, earth and air – protecting all that’s dark and fair. . .
When time exploded the endless night and memories of life turned light
When hope created world and man and breath became the words he sang
That song returns the gentle touch of hope replacing rampant lust
The begging chant of open hands, as dreams bear fruit on barren sands.

  • 6. Burning Fire With Fire (with Jessica Mercy)

Here René teams up with Jessica Mercy vocalist of US Symphonic metal band, Anaria. It is an epic song about the power of women and the strength their universal bond can achieve. We brought in 5 live African drummers to support the central theme of the song.
“Jessica is such a versatile vocalist and her eerily beautiful Celtic vocal lends a contemporary feel to the ancient language of the African drum” (Esther).

    The Lyrics

I cast the bones, I search the night
I draw the power into the light
I find the future, I change the past
My dance of power, my spell is cast

    CHORUS
Burning fire with fire, angel from the earth
Climbing higher and higher, goddess of all youth
The birth of all desire, sorceress of truth
I am all creation of sons and mortal kings
I am all salvation – the light that mercy brings.
The little boy that needs a home,
The tiny girl in fear alone
The broken man without a prayer
Out in the cold – broken despair . . .

    BRIDGE
All through the smoke, the ruin and rain
You’ll take my hand stronger than chains
Sirens of change united in wrath
Women of strength – one Holy path

  • 7. Enlightenment

As with most ballads, this song is self-explanatory. It is about how our ordinary lives bring us incredible riches. We aimed for a stripped-down, more acoustic vibe with this one.

    The Lyrics

There are corners around my world, a little breath in every word
The taste, the touch, the tale of living here
Where every corner hides a dream, a little sliver in the stream
A wishing well that holds and plays tomorrow.

    CHORUS A
I touch the sunlight, taste the breeze
Breathe in starlight bitter sweet –
    every life around me.

I always knew that I’ll return, I pack my hopes in silver urns
Preserve the dream of living together
But life just dealt with life today, tomorrow looks the other way
And everything is locked away forever.

We’re scarred, and yet complete . . . we live and learn and find our feet
We shout the joys, the triumphs and the sorrow
An opera of light and sound, a soul alights on hollow ground
    Fearless, bold, embracing tomorrow . . .

    CHORUS B
And when twilight touch my face
    Ember sunlight’s last embrace –
May seasons’ peace be with me?

  • 8. Fear

It is a love song filled with mythical symbols. In love we are all a Chimera – the evil twin within ourselves. It tells the story of how love will take you to Hades and back.

    The Lyrics

In the hourglass Chimera no one seems to last forever
Now finally you’re one, all memories are gone
I will always haunt you; no shroud of light will hide you
Where the gates are solid bone – all eternity in stone

    CHORUS
    I fear, the truth of this, I fear . . .
How will I miss the magic of your hands through the hourglass of sand?
    I fear the truth of this, I fear . . .
What’s left of us, your smile of river red to the land of living dead?
    I fear . . .
And as Charon rows, I’ll follow – in the darkness love is hollow
In the echoes I will hide till I triumph by your side
All the sand is gone forever, sealing love and rage together
Now we share the ancient sins in the land where Hades wins
Drowning in your kiss of river red . . .

  • 9. The Raven

The raven is a typical example of how we enmeshed the dualism of Africa with Symphonic rock/metal.
“Africa has long been the frontier for the resource lust of the rest of the world. The price is paid in human lives, wars, dictators and the future of our children. The raven is the witness, feeding on the destitute. Africa is a landscape of extremes and this song hopes to give you a small taste of the harshness and beauty of our continent’s reality.” (Esther).

    The Lyrics

When silence grows where children whimpered; we stand as one in our belief
Now we will know that every whisper becomes the tide our ravens’ grief
Africa’s justice a buried stain, blood be the witness washed in the rain

    CHORUS
The raven caws as the raven flies,
the raven feeds where the destitute dies (where the future lies)
The rape of my mother, she’s lying in state
My civilized cradle breeds children of hate. (My civilized cradle – tomorrow’s fate)
My home destroyed, but I can see the massacre decay that seethes
I am the raven that flies the land, my ancient country – home of man.
The gods bear the witness to every tear – gross the injustice of guns and spears.

    BRIDGE
Find the incense of life in this mortal race
Breathe the Holy fire, be everlasting grace

  • 10. Virgin Death (Classic rendition)

When we started writing this album we decided to take one of the heavier tracks of the previous album, and go totally classical with it. “It is amazing how this musical avenue brought out a total different emotion in the song. Where the guitars and drums of the power version steered the emotion more towards anger and desperation, the classical one brings out the sadness more. . . It is a beautiful love song, so well written” (René).

    The Lyrics

A screech, like a howl, pierce like thunder in the night
Bring death to pyres, melt the wings of angels’ flight
Etch the gargoyle grinning, wake the demon’s fitful sleep
And the virgin kills the phantom of her lover in the deep.

    CHORUS
Sweet love, I’ll write you a letter
Ink the pen from the vein you laid bare
When your soul left your sight, your skin iced in the light
Bloodlines barren, bold, broken despair . . .

Will you hear when I scream at the heavens, beg their grace?
When I tear at the moon, spit the devil in his face?
Close my eyes, force the sight of my hope in broken bonds
And the virgin cowers deeper, swearing blood-oaths at the gods

    CHORUS
My love, can you whisper a moment?
Let me taste your mind on the breeze
The caress of your spirit, livid joy deep within it
My hold slips, slowly falters, then freeze . . .

There was never a truth we didn’t lay bare
We travelled all roads, our battles were fair
Now you left me to wonder, your heart lost to my youth
And I scream, and I blunder as the fear fractures my truth.

  • 11. Grace

It was a total coincidence, but very appropriate and symbolic to us, that Grace was the last song we wrote for this album. It is a soulful love song, supported by a very simplistic, powerful arrangement.

    The Lyrics

Life never asks permission to toss all truths aside
It tears with pure precision – all phantom hope apart
But sometimes it’s outsmarted and nothing fears its rules
It’s not for the faint-hearted, and never suffers fools

    CHORUS
I’ll hear the song in you when no one listens
Cause all of you find resonance in me
My heart would search the world for your eyes,
with angel hands burning bridges into me.

I know this is pure attrition to a cause that’s selfish now
But I’ll suffer all intrusion just to share with you somehow.
And the bending of your voice to the verses of our minds
is the pulse of my existence, all the home my soul will find.
